Saint Pius X Medals

If you appreciate the fact that your children can receive Holy Eucharist at the age of seven, you can thank Pope Pius X! This Saint Pius X medal necklace would be the perfect gift for a child receiving his First Holy Eucharist.

Poor. Humble. Simple. These are oft-used adjectives when describing Pope Saint Pius X. He was a poor farm boy from a devout family of nine children, and one of the nine who heeded a call to the religious life. Like many other popes, he found the position to be a burdensome one, and a sacrifice. Uncomfortable with the pomp and circumstance which surrounds popes, he sought a humble papacy and daily invited the poor and Vatican workers to dine with him in the Vatican. He also snuck out of the papal residence to go serve the poor in Rome and to visit the sick. He made many improvements to the liturgy and to the quality of teaching required of his priests and is known for lowering the age of First Holy Eucharist to the age of seven. Pope Pius believed strongly in frequent reception of the Eucharist for children and made it a reality.

Saint Pius X has his feast day on August 21 and is patron of many causes and places: Society of Saint Pius X (SSPX); Archdiocese of Atlanta, Georgia; Diocese of Des Moines, Iowa; first communicants; Diocese of Great Falls-Billings, Montana; Archdiocese of Kottayam, India; Esperantists; pilgrims; Santa Luċija, Malta; Diocese of Springfield-Cape Girardeau, Missouri; Archdiocese of Zamboanga, Philippines; emigrants from Treviso; Patriarchy of Venice; Catechists; St. Pius X Seminary (Dubuque, Iowa).
