You don’t need to travel to a remote village as a missionary or abandon your current state in life to live as an ascetic. Saint Thérèse tells us that the little things we do during everyday life, if done with great love, are our path to sainthood. Many mothers lean on St. Thérèse to remind them to show their love through the millions of tiny actions they perform daily. Bless a beloved mother with this gift of a quality Saint Thérèse medal necklace!
Therese, the last of the nine children born into the devout Louis and Zelie Martin family, experienced an interior conversion at the age of 14 on Christmas Eve. The next year, she entered a Carmelite convent. She suffered throughout her short life with various health problems, but during her life, she adopted this perspective on holiness: "What matters in life is not great deeds, but great love." She believed that the way to holiness was to consciously choose to treat each person and each situation with love. Thérèse died at the age of 24, but her writings and her simple view of holiness help us to see that saintliness is attainable, one moment at a time.
Saint Thérèse the Little Flower is the patroness of the missions, and her feast day is October 1.
