Birthstone Rosaries

Birthstone rosaries have a long history and connection to the bible. Did you know that birthstones originated with the twelve tribes of Israel? Moses associated each of the tribes with a gemstone and these were used on the breastplate of the high priest, Ex. 39:9-14. Twelve represents the twelve tribes of Israel, twelve Apostles and twelve months of the year. As the tradition evolved, the stones identified in the Bible became associated with specific months.
