In the Jubilee Year of Saint Francis 2026 — marking the 800th anniversary of his death on October 3, 1226 — there is no more fitting way to honor his legacy than with this enduring Saint Francis of Assisi with Fawn Garden Statue by Massarelli's, made in the USA. Standing 21 inches tall and cast from weather-resistant natural stone concrete, this statue captures the moment for which Francis is most beloved: a man of profound peace, standing in quiet communion with one of God's smallest, most vulnerable creatures — a fawn at his side, two souls at rest in the presence of God.

This is not a mass-produced import. Every Massarelli's statue is cast to order by skilled American craftsmen, finished by hand, and built to weather decades outdoors in a garden, grotto, or prayer space. At 37 pounds of solid natural stone concrete, it has the weight and permanence to anchor any sacred outdoor space — from a formal garden to a simple backyard shrine. Available in Detailed Stain or Classic Mountain Bronze finish, select your preference above.

The Jubilee Year of Saint Francis — 2026

2026 marks the 800th anniversary of the death of Saint Francis of Assisi, who died on October 3, 1226 at the Porziuncola in Assisi, Italy. Pope Francis — who took his papal name in honor of the Poverello — has called for a special observance of this anniversary, drawing Catholics worldwide to renewed reflection on Francis's radical witness to poverty, creation, peace, and the Gospel lived in simplicity.

Saint Francis is one of the most universally beloved figures in Christian history — revered not only by Catholics but by Christians of every tradition and by people of no faith at all — precisely because his love for creation, his care for the poor, and his capacity for joy speak to something universal in the human heart. A Saint Francis garden statue in the Jubilee Year is both a devotional act and a lasting memorial to one of the Church's greatest saints.

Who Was Saint Francis of Assisi?

Saint Francis of Assisi (1181–1226) was born into wealth in the hill town of Assisi in Umbria, Italy, and gave it all away — literally stripping off his fine clothes in the public square and walking away from his inheritance to follow Christ in radical poverty. He founded the Franciscan Order, received the stigmata — the wounds of Christ — on Mount La Verna in 1224, and died singing Psalm 141 in the arms of his brothers at the Porziuncola chapel in 1226. He was canonized just two years later in 1228 by Pope Gregory IX.

Francis is the patron saint of animals, ecology, Italy, and merchants, and his Canticle of the Creatures — one of the earliest poems written in the Italian language — is a hymn of praise to God for Brother Sun, Sister Moon, Brother Wind, Sister Water, Brother Fire, and Sister Mother Earth. It was written when he was nearly blind, suffering greatly, and still overflowing with gratitude. His feast day is October 4th, celebrated by the Blessing of the Animals in Catholic parishes around the world.
