He spent his entire priesthood in a small friary in southern Italy, never left, and changed the world anyway. This Saint Padre Pio Garden Statue by Massarelli's — made in the USA — captures the Capuchin friar exactly as those who knew him described him: robed in his brown Franciscan habit and stole, barefoot, head bowed, rosary and crucifix held in his hands, wearing the quiet, gentle smile of a man utterly at peace with God. Standing 25 inches tall and cast in weather-resistant natural stone concrete, this statue is built to bring his presence into your garden, grotto, or outdoor prayer space for decades.
The Detailed Color finish — warm browns of the habit, the grey of his beard and hair, the soft skin tones of his face and hands — makes this one of the most lifelike Padre Pio statues available in outdoor stone. The Classic Iron finish offers the same sculptural detail in a rich, monochromatic patina suited to formal garden settings. Both are available to order. Every statue is cast and hand-finished individually by skilled American craftsmen — no two are identical, and each carries the character of handmade work.
Saint Padre Pio — Patron of Stress Relief, the Sick & Those Who Suffer
Saint Padre Pio of Pietrelcina (1887–1968) was a Capuchin Franciscan priest who bore the stigmata — the five wounds of Christ — for fifty years, from 1918 until his death in 1968. He was a confessor of extraordinary gifts, spending up to eighteen hours a day in the confessional, and is said to have had the gifts of bilocation, the reading of souls, and the ability to be in two places at once. He was canonized by Pope John Paul II in 2002.
Padre Pio is the patron saint of stress relief, civil defense volunteers, adolescents, and the sick. His counsel to those who came to him suffering was always the same: pray, trust, and do not be afraid. His most quoted words — "Pray, hope, and don't worry" — have brought peace to millions. He was a man of the rosary above all else, praying it continuously and urging everyone around him to take it up. The image of this statue — Pio with rosary and crucifix in hand, head gently bowed — is the image of his entire life.
His feast day is September 23rd.
