She appeared not in a cathedral but on a hillside, to a poor indigenous convert, and left her image on his tilma — a cloak that has defied scientific explanation for nearly 500 years. This Our Lady of Guadalupe Statue by Joseph's Studio by Roman faithfully renders the sacred image of Tepeyac: Our Lady standing in prayer, eyes gently downcast, wrapped in her star-studded blue-green mantle with gold embroidered border, her deep rose gown adorned with floral pattern, a gold sash at her waist — the sign, in Aztec tradition, that she was with child. She is surrounded by a full radiant mandorla of orange and gold sunburst rays, and supported at her feet by a small angel on clouds — the messenger of heaven bearing the Queen of Heaven herself. At just 4.5 inches tall, this hand-painted resin statue brings the image of Guadalupe into any space — desk, bedside table, home altar, car dashboard, dorm room, or office — with all the color and detail of the original.

Statue Details

Hands Folded in Prayer, Eyes Downcast
Our Lady is shown not gazing outward at the viewer but in humble prayer — head slightly bowed, hands pressed together. She prays with us, not merely at us. This posture of intercession is one of the most theologically distinctive features of the Guadalupe image.
Blue-Green Mantle with Gold Embroidered Border
The blue-green (turquoise) mantle is the color of Aztec royalty — a visual signal to the indigenous people of Mexico that this woman was a queen. The gold embroidered border and star pattern on the mantle carry the same message. Joseph's Studio renders both the color and the embroidery detail with exceptional faithfulness.
Deep Rose Gown with Floral Pattern
The rose-burgundy gown is covered with a delicate floral pattern — in Aztec symbolism, flowers represented life, beauty, and the divine. The gold sash at her waist is the traditional sign of pregnancy in Aztec culture, communicating to Juan Diego's people that she carried the Son of God.
Radiant Mandorla
The full-body halo of radiating sunburst rays in orange, gold, and deep red surrounds Our Lady completely — she stands before the sun, greater than the sun god the Aztecs worshipped, blocking his light with her presence. The mandorla is rendered in the warm, vivid colors of the original tilma image.
Angel at Her Feet
A small angel kneels on clouds at Our Lady's feet, supporting her — a detail present in the original tilma image that reinforces her identity as Queen of Heaven, carried by angels. The angel's warm skin tones and upturned face give this small statue a remarkable tenderness at its base.

December 12th — Our Lady of Guadalupe

Our Lady of Guadalupe — The Apparitions of 1531

On December 9–12, 1531, the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared four times to Juan Diego Cuauhtlatoatzin, a recently baptized Aztec convert, on the hill of Tepeyac outside Mexico City. She asked that a church be built in her honor on that site. When the bishop demanded a sign, Our Lady instructed Juan Diego to gather roses — blooming impossibly in winter — in his tilma (cloak) and carry them to the bishop. When he opened the tilma before the bishop, the roses fell to the floor and the image of Our Lady was miraculously imprinted on the fabric.

The tilma of Juan Diego has been housed in the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City ever since — now the most visited Catholic pilgrimage site in the world, receiving over 20 million visitors each year. The image on the tilma has been studied extensively by scientists, who have found that it shows no brushstrokes, no sizing, no underdrawing, and that the eyes contain detailed reflections consistent with the moment the tilma was unfolded before the bishop in 1531. It remains unexplained.

Our Lady of Guadalupe is the patroness of the Americas, of Mexico, of unborn children, and of the New Evangelization. Her feast day is December 12th.

The Traditional Guadalupe Prayer

"Our Lady of Guadalupe, Mystical Rose, make intercession for the Holy Church, protect the Sovereign Pontiff, help all those who invoke thee in their necessities, and since thou art the ever Virgin Mary and Mother of the True God, obtain for us from thy most holy Son the grace of keeping our faith, of sweet hope in the midst of the bitterness of life, of burning charity and the precious gift of final perseverance. Amen."
