Saint Barnabas is the founder of the Cypriot Orthodox Church. He was an important figure during the early time of Christ and is known for his work as a missionary and evangelist as he is mentioned throughout the New Testament.
He was martyred because he was preaching in a synagogue and was very successful in converting the Jewish people to the Christian faith. His conversions were so successful that he was stoned to death in order to stop more Jewish people from converting. He was buried by Saint Mark the Evangelist.
He is the patron saint of Cyprus and called upon as a peacemaker.
