The sacrament of baptism wipes away original sin and initiates us into the Mystical Body of Christ. It is such a powerful and significant sacrament that many say the baptismal date should be remembered and celebrated every year! In baptism, we join with Christ in the “little death” of submersion in the water, so that we can be reborn as children of God and members of His Church. It is a sign we can see, that was begun when Jesus went into the Jordan to be baptized by John the Baptist. We celebrate baptism with images of Christ, candles, white garments and gifts for all those who participate. In this way, we honor the importance of joining in the kingdom of God. This sacrament gives us grace and strength for our spiritual lives. So let’s celebrate!
