Advent Wreaths

Look at the flickering Advent Candles on your Advent Wreath and focus on slowing down.  Each of the four Sundays in Advent is symbolized by another light, because we are turning our gaze toward the Light of the World!

Advent marks the beginning of the new liturgical year. At the end of the seasonal year, we in the Church, celebrate a new year as Christians! Advent is a powerful time of preparation as we anticipate the coming of our Savior, when the Creator became one of His creatures in order to lift us up! During our preparation during Advent we remember that Jesus will come again as the one who judges the living and the dead. In order to step away from the frantic consumerism we see around us during the Christmas season, the Catholic Faith Store offers aids for Advent to remind us of the spiritual truths of this season.

• Sunday, December 3, 2023 - First Sunday of Advent  (purple candle, theme is Hope)
• Sunday, December 10, 2023 - Second Sunday of Advent  (purple candle, theme is Love)
• Sunday, December 17, 2023 - Third Sunday of Advent  (purple or pink candle, theme is Joy)
• Sunday, December 24, 2023 - Fourth Sunday of Advent (purple candle, theme is Peace)

Advent is a time of anticipation and preparation for Christmas.  During Advent we use an advent wreath or candle set in our homes and places of worship and for each Sunday during advent a candle is lit.
