St. Gianna Molla

Born in 1922 near Milan, Italy, St. Gianna Beretta Molla was a pediatrician, a devoted wife and the mother of four children. During her fourth pregnancy, doctors found a tumor on her uterus, and she chose treatment that would protect her unborn daughter’s life rather than her own. She died on April 28, 1962, one week after her daughter’s birth, and was canonized by Pope John Paul II on May 16, 2004. Her feast day is April 28, and she is a patron of mothers, physicians and unborn children.
