Saint Edwin was king of Northumbria and reigned for approximately twenty years.
He agreed to marry a devout Christian woman in exchange for an expansion of his kingdom. Years after his marriage he too converted to Christianity.
He worked to convert his kingdom to Christianity and as an evangelist. He was martyred in battle with the pagan king, Penda of Mercia.
His feast is October 12th. He is the patron saint of converts, the homeless, kings, and parents of large families.
