There are several saints who bear the name “Adrian.” One of them was Adrian of Nicomedia who had overseen the execution of Christians.
Their courage and faith in an eternal reward caused Adrian to convert and he was immediately imprisoned. His wife came to see him and she asked for his intercession when he reached heaven.
He was martyred in 306 AD. A second Adrian was from Canterbury, England. He was a well-known and effective educator and abbot who died in 701.
He is the patron saint of Epidemics, Prison Guards, and Soldiers. His feast day is September 8th.
