Saint Finnian was an Irish monk who founded Clonard Abbey in County Meath, Ireland.
Although he spent thirty years studying and praying in monasteries in Wales, he did return to Ireland and founded monastic communities. His life as an excellent orator of scripture and his life of study, mortification, and prayer became well known. Many came to visit his retreat sometimes up to 3000 at one time.
Many who visited Saint Finnian left him with an evangelist's heart and they spread Christianity throughout Europe and abroad.
His feast day is December 12.
