Saint Edward was born into a noble family but unrest meant that although he was born in England he would spend much of his life in exile under the care of the Danes.
His childhood was spent being an assistant in the church where he nurtured his gently and saintly character. He had no ambition to be king but after many years, Edward was invited back to England and took the thrown.
Under his rule as King of England, there were no wars and the country remained at peace. He removed many of the burdensome taxes and was devoted to the welfare of his kingdom. For this, he was greatly loved by his people.
His feast is October 13th. He is the patron saint of kings, difficult marriages, and separated spouse.
